I was reading one of my favorite blogs today, eggbeater and a line popped out at me.....
"But once you become responsible for humans and not just carrots, the game changes forever."
Of course, she was referring to inter-kitchen life but it applies here to me now, this way.
If you're a pro or used to be, you'll appreciate eggbeater. If you watch too much Food Network, you'll just think the writer is some kind of female Anthony Bourdain and miss the whole point.
Was trying to read but the language made me turn away. She sounds like an interesting person, but I cant stand the *F* word and sadly cant read her writing. :( I will take your word for it though, thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI guess after years in so many kitchens, it doesn't stand out to me any more. Sorry. What I like about her writing is that she has a strong sense of integrity and hard work, but with an understanding that people need sympathy and respect. Kitchen work (esp. in the NYC) is gritty and hard, not at all the glamorous, edited 30 minutes that everyone seems to like on tv.
ReplyDeleteHaha very true! Even at the restaurant I worked at people had mouths that could challenge a trucker! The F word just makes me cringe though, I dont know exactly why. I did try to go over the f-bombs, and she is very honest, being a chef is very hard. I dont even have cable, so IDK what any of those cooking shows are like today, but from what I've seen in the past, they certainly dont show the 'true' side of the kitchen.
